Historic North Hill is an affluent neighborhood perched atop a high ridge overlooking Downtown Pensacola. Development of Historic North Hill began in the 1890s, and it was the first neighborhood in Pensacola to attract predominantly wealthy residents living in luxury homes.
The neighborhood retains its rich historic character with a real estate mix consisting mostly of stately homes built between 1895 and 1940. Historic North Hill’s architectural styles are diverse, drawing on British Arts and Crafts, French Colonial, and Spanish Colonial influences. The North Hill Preservation District covers the entire neighborhood and is comprised of 425 buildings.

Historic North Hill is Pensacola’s oldest upscale neighborhood, and its architecture is incredibly captivating. Famous residents of North Hill have included Marilyn Monroe’s mother and socialite Wallis Simpson, who married British King Edward VIII. This refined neighborhood has a close-knit sense of community with the largest voluntary neighborhood association in Pensacola. The community is also incredibly convenient, located right next to all of the amenities of Downtown Pensacola.

First City Arts Center is a wonderful community resource that offers a broad range of art programs to more than 10,000 people of all ages and skill levels every year. First City Arts Center hosts a diverse lineup of workshops, classes, and events where participants can learn how to create art with ceramics, drawing, glassblowing, pottery, sculpture, and 3D design software. Some of First City Arts Center’s most popular programs include afterschool art classes and a variety of morning and evening classes for adults. Alabama Square is Historic North Hill’s neighborhood park. This gorgeous green space features mature oak trees, curving sidewalks, a children’s play area with a brick plaza, and a central gazebo for performances and events. Popular events at Alabama Square include family-friendly outdoor movie screenings. The 25,000 square foot Court of DeLuna event space hosts many festivals and private celebrations, including various events for the two-week Fiesta Pensacola in June. Centered on a large downtown parade, Fiesta Pensacola is a unique celebration of the City of Five Flags’ five centuries of history and heritage. North Hill Historic Homes Tour is one of the best ways to get to know both the neighborhood and your neighbors. The tour is organized by local volunteers who guide participants through Historic North Hill’s fascinating history and architecture.
